Living Stories That Change Lives

Donna Gunter

Dr Cheryl,

I just can’t tell you thank you enough for putting yourself out there, telling your own personal story and reaching out to others.

Due to your teaching and the help of some other practitioners, I had the BEST vacation with my family that I have had in at least 10 years.  You were one of my initial catalysts. I remember desperately coming across your book “Food Smart”.  Lying in bed, I read through it and felt such a sense of “finally, someone who is telling my story”.  I had my husband read the first part so he could realize that I wasn’t just being lazy and forgetful on purpose.

Your teaching through your books, DVD’s, seminars and e-mails, has guided me on this most practical journey to recovery.  I’m not completely where I want to be yet but I feel “normal” with some kinks for the first time in over 10 years.  Finally, I have consistent energy throughout my days/weeks.

Used to on our family vacations, I would do one activity (with very low countenance) with the family.  Then spend the remaining day resting and recuperating while my husband and kids would go swimming, biking, etc.  We recently went on a week vacation where I swam, biked, played tennis, went to the amusement park twice and had a blast.  I DID IT ALL with them.  Often when we returned to our place, they would rest and watch tv while I would play around in the kitchen with recipes.  An absolute first.  I felt like “look mom, I’m doing it”.  I couldn’t get over that not once did I have a crash moment.

My husband and I have been doing the P90X exercise program advertised on tv and I’ve been able to keep up and have energy afterward.  Used to just a walk around the block for me would cause a crash and I would have to rest before I could even take a shower.  At one of your seminars, you shared how exhausted you would get after exercising and why.  It was so nice to for my husband and myself to hear that.  He kept encouraging me to exercise for energy but I felt it took what little I had.  Your saying that gave me permission to realize there was a reason and to forgive myself as I worked on improving my health.  Now, exercise does give me energy.

Thanks again to you and Forest and all you do.

Donna M. Gunter
