Why Enzymes?
One of my favorite supplements categories has to be enzymes. I have seen amazing results with the correct use of effective enzymes. Five years after closing the clinic, we still have clients ordering enzymes. Why? THEY WORK!
My mentor, Dr. Howard Loomis gives an easily understood picture of the role of enzymes.

To help our discussion, let’s look at some simple definitions –
Health is a normal condition of the body and mind with all of the parts working. The ability to maintain a ‘normal’ environment against any stimuli or challenges.
Disease is disturbed function, something that is not working normally. In disease there are only normal functions that are going too fast or too slow or out of normal timing.
Symptoms are simply the body’s way of telling us what is ‘out of balance.’
If we learn to listen to our body, we can restore balance instead of simply ‘covering up the warning light’ by eliminating the symptom (messenger). In order to restore balance, the body must have ‘workers’ – enzymes!
The following are common indicators of enzyme deficiencies – or a lack of ‘workers’.
- Headaches
- Stiff or sore joints
- Constipation and/or diarrhea
- Gas, bloating and/or sleepiness after meals
- Heartburn
- Irritability, restlessness and/or insomnia
- Anxiety and/or depression
Does taking an enzyme ‘cure’ these issues? Of course not! Only the body can heal. However, when you give the body more ‘workers’, the body can get the necessary work done to create health.
