How many of you can count the almost countless times you’ve set goals, only to have life show up and knock you off track? Old behaviors that you thought were tucked away show up and before you know it your goals are a thing of the past and that special something you wanted to attain is once again relegated to the failure pile. Sound familiar?
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve set a fitness goal, started boldly, and then a few months later come to the realization that nothing has really changed. I look about the same - good enough to say “oh well, I’m in pretty good shape, so it really doesn’t matter”! What keeps the results from happening? Lack of diligence and consistency at doing the small things, each day, that would make a difference!
This past November I had the opportunity to give it ‘another go’, in the form of the 90-Day Body-by-Vi Fitness Challenge that a number my friends, family and business partners were also doing. I proudly announced that I would lead the way - kind of a bold statement based on my past lack of success in this area!
This time it’s working - it has a totally different feel and I have a real optimism about the final outcome. What’s the difference this time? Why is it working differently? Here are a couple of thoughts that might be helpful to you on your quest for a personal break through:
• There is a definite time frame required for me to keep my commitment - each day I mark off one more day completed on my calendar - I’m committed to completing the full 90 days!
• I’ve made my commitment public to a very large group of people and I post my accountability daily on Facebook - it would look pretty bad to fall short in front of that many people!
• I’ve committed to taking “baby steps” each day - in other words, diligently doing the right things each day, even if they’re small, knowing that over time those little steps will turn into a huge results.
• I’ve stopped looking for overnight success - I’m working to create new daily habits that will, over time create the big payoff! This is not about the one huge workout - it’s about the small, but consistent daily workouts.
• It’s about putting me first and saying that I’m worth taking an hour for myself each day!
• If the day gets ‘cut short’ and I don’t get in my full hour - then I make it OK to do less - this key is that something gets done everyday.
• It’s been about creating a support team and encouraging others to create similar success in their life - by doing that I’m encouraged to stay on track myself.
• I know that others are watching me and that my success or failure will have an impact on them - my success matters because it makes a difference beyond me!
• Daily I ask myself the simple question, “If not now, when?”
Are you ready for your 90-Day Challenge? Is it time to ask yourself, “If not now, when?” Each year I see life accelerating - it’s becoming way too easy to just let another year slip by! As Cheryl and I head toward our 60’s we have a renewed commitment to ‘becoming younger and more fit each year’ and we invite you to join us!
