Inflammation is Accelerated Aging! It’s aging faster than you want!
Have you ever heard someone say, “Well I guess that’s just a normal part of getting older”?
Have you done your best to eat healthy, take quality supplements and even exercise regularly, only to find that you are aging faster than you thought you would?
Is excess weight, insomnia, fatigue, pain, poor balance or poor mental clarity becoming more of a problem?
We were all born and created to move, to play, to laugh, to discover, to have fun and to enjoy life, but somewhere along the way many of us lost those child-like joys!
Inflammation is accelerating aging – it’s aging faster than you need to.
Inflammation shows up in many forms, most of which we think of as just a normal part of the aging process: stiffness, pain, brain fog, poor digestion, poor sleep, no energy, poor balance, extra belly fat and so much more.
Even the medical community is now beginning to acknowledge that inflammation is at the root of all disease, the aging process, brain health, and many weight loss issues. Yes, inflammation is at the root of pretty much everything that plagues us today!
Inflammation starts with your brain. Your subconscious (brainstem and cerebellum) assesses everything you’re experiencing (second by second). Its first and primary job is to determine what is ‘safe and unsafe’ (based on your life experiences and beliefs). When your brain perceives that some aspect of your life is unsafe, the stress hormones and inflammatory process kicks into gear.
The perception of ‘unsafe’ immediately activates your stress hormones, the accelerated use of vitamins B and C, the rapid burning of minerals and the depletion of glutathione (your body’s master antioxidant).
This creates an ocean of inflammatory symptoms throughout the body. This in turn speeds up the ‘aging process’ and can rapidly move you into feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
Over the years, I’ve discovered that there are many steps we can take to reverse this process. I’ve experienced it in my life and I’ve seen it in the lives of thousands of my clients. It begins by stepping through the door of learning to work with your brain instead of against it.
So much can be reversed – I’m living proof of this and so are my clients.
No matter where you are on the train of rapid aging and inflammation, you can slow it down and/or reverse it. There is always hope!
How can you reverse the inflammatory, aging process for you? Here are 3 simple steps to help you initiate those changes.
Step 1: Fuel Your Brain
Be sure to stay hydrated (drinking ½ of your body weight in ounces of water). Dehydration stresses your entire system, but especially your brain. Do your best to drink your water before 7 pm (so that you’re not up at night)!
Add plenty of good fats to your diet to support your brain’s neural transmitters, your hormones and mental clarity. These include olive oil, avocado oil, fish oil, and grass-fed dairy products (if you’re not dairy intolerant).
Step 2: Activate Your Brain
Your brain functions on the principle of ‘use it or lose it!’ Your brain is always trying to conserve energy. If something is not being used, it tends to let it go! Conversely, if something is being done frequently, the brain gets better at it. In other words, sitting all day encourages sitting in the evening, creative thinking encourages more creative thinking and movement encourages more movement.
Your brain loves learning, movement, novel experiences and a sense of adventure and play (just watch how young children learn)!
Move! The more you move in fun, novel ways, that your body and brain like, the more you are creating a healthy brain. Go for a walk. Let your eyes roam around to see new scenery – practice your peripheral vision – move your head and eyes while you are walking (side to side, up and down and diagonally). Learn to dance, or just learn to have fun at the playground! Yes even getting on a swing can stimulate and improve you visual and vestibular (balance) systems!
Another simple way to activate your brain is with conscious, relaxed, deep breathing. Shallow breathing or holding your breath tells your brain you are unsafe and triggers the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight). This is a major trigger of inflammatory responses.

Step 3: Find Comfort
The more comfortable we are in life, the more capacity we have to notice, learn and grow. If we make our life about rules, deprivation and what we can’t do, then we lose our sense of safety or comfort. Take time to enjoy friends and family, share a hug, laugh more and even take some extra time when you eat to simply enjoy the fellowship of sitting at the table with friends and family!
Youthful and Fit
