How long has it been since you have had a big smile like this on your face and in your heart? That smile is of a man who has chosen to love his life, family, and the purpose God created him to fulfill.
It wasn’t always like that.
Forest has grown by leaps and bounds this last year—it’s been exciting to watch. He made a choice to quit looping in the past with regrets, bitterness, disappointments, and unforgiveness and replace them! It has been a daily, intentional choice—with forward steps and backward steps! What was the catalyst?
- The word legacy captured his attention. One of his mentors was teaching on it, and he realized that as he was approaching age 70, this needed serious attention. He did not want his legacy to be one of regrets and anger!
- Two of Jesus’ commands in John: to forgive and to love. He realized that these were not just nice words from Jesus but commands that came with significant promises. He saw those promises (love, peace, and joy) as areas in his life that were lacking. His mentor taught him that if you want the promise, you have to obey the command . . . oops . . . it was time to lock his thoughts and actions onto fully obeying the words of Jesus. As his mentor taught, there is a big difference between believing in Jesus and believing Jesus!
- Instead of looping on his problems and the world’s problems, it was time to make a conscious effort to focus on his blessings. Gratitude is a choice that we can learn to make, regardless of the circumstances around us!
Significant changes do not happen overnight. Life is a journey with many ups and downs. The question is: “Do you have a plan for staying on the path of your purpose, or are you letting the winds of life blow you in all directions?” Are you letting your issues hold you back and keep you stuck, or are you pursuing the purpose God has for you?
The first step Forest took (about a year ago), which was also given by his mentor, was to spend time every morning reading one book of Proverbs and making some journal notes on the key point for him that day. This means in one year, you’ll read the book of Proverbs 12 times! The pursuit of wisdom is the main thing!!! To grow in wisdom, you must pursue it on a daily basis, for the rest of your life. Why? The world system is doing everything it can to prevent you from operating in wisdom – this is a 24/7 attack on your brain, your body, your spirit, and your soul. The book of Proverbs is truly the Book of Wisdom – read it daily and watch it begin to change your life! We love the Passion Translation!
