Have you ever found yourself at a life juncture with no clear idea of what to do? Have you prayed, sought God, only to encounter silence?
Over the years, I have often created a blanket of silence through my actions or inaction. I have found that there are obstacles that prevent me from hearing God’s voice. What are those obstacles that prevent me from hearing God’s still, quiet voice? What can we do to remove them?
One of the biggest obstacles we create is unforgiveness. When we refuse to forgive ourselves, God for allowing it, or others, we become trapped in the web that can silence God’s voice.
When we learn to forgive, we can experience a release from the burdens of guilt, shame, resentment, and hardness of heart. These burdens keep us stuck in the past. Only as we let go of these burdens can we begin to hear God’s voice in the present. We can embrace hearing as we are no longer attempting to prove how ‘right’ we are. What freedom!
If you have never stepped into forgiveness, you can check out my videos on the topic. I often ask the Lord to show me where I hold offense or unforgiveness. Those burdens are just too heavy to carry forward.
As you learn to forgive yourself, you develop a skill that you can apply to forgiving others and God for allowing. It doesn’t mean you like, condone, or want more of what happened. It does mean you want to be free of the burden!
Another big obstacle is the need to be ‘right’. If there is only one way to do something – your way, then there is no room for God, His voice, or His wisdom.
I often ask the Lord for the wisdom to see things differently, to see from His perspective, and to find a place of neutrality. Check out the video on how to get to neutral.
Another question I love to ask the Lord is, ‘Who are you calling me to BE in this situation?’ We are also asking a different form of that question as we are in transition with Lifestyle for Health – ‘Who have you called Lifestyle for Health to BE in this season?’
We are hearing fresh ideas and a new direction, and it is a joy. Without a doubt, if we were harboring unforgiveness or the need to be right, we would be missing out on the new frontiers God is calling us to.
Join us on the journey of discovering how to become the whole person God has created you to be. What an adventure it is!
