If you don’t read labels (an important life skill), you are probably unaware of the over 260 names for the simple ingredient – sugar.

The average American consumes approximately 60 to 80 pounds of added sugar annually, roughly 17 teaspoons or 71 grams daily.

Significantly exceeding the recommended limits. However, the problem doesn’t stop there. The real issue is the IMPACT of consuming sugar. These consequences might surprise you!

  • Sugar in your brain can contribute to dementia and Alzheimer’s.
    • Alzheimer’s is considered Type 3 Diabetes.
    • A lowered-carb, higher-protein diet (more of a Carnivore) addresses blood sugar that impacts the brain and overall blood sugar scores.
  • Sugar in your eyes can contribute to glaucoma.
    • Managing blood sugar levels is crucial for preventing or slowing the progression of glaucoma-related eye damage.
  • Sugar in your blood can contribute to Type 2 Diabetes.
    • Excessive sugar intake, particularly added sugars, can indirectly increase the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, primarily due to its contribution to weight gain and insulin resistance.
  • Sugar in your teeth.
    • Sugar is a major contributor to cavities because the bacteria in your mouth metabolize it, producing acid that erodes tooth enamel, leading to tooth decay. Many of our clients have found that daily swishing with Swish30 reduces the harmful bacteria in the mouth and improves dental health. Watch for an exciting announcement of a new dental health product that we’ll be launching in June!
  • Sugar in your skin.
    • Sugar can age your skin. Excess sugar in your bloodstream can cause Glycation, a natural chemical reaction when sugar levels spike beyond what our insulin can handle. Glycation affects the part of our skin that keeps it ‘springy’ – collagen and elastin. When these two proteins link with sugars, they become weaker. When these essential skin building blocks are impaired, the signs of aging become more apparent. Skin becomes drier and less elastic, causing wrinkles, sagging, and a dull skin appearance. PrimaSkin can help skin improve.
  • Sugar in your sleep.
    • Consuming sugary foods, especially before bed, can disrupt sleep due to rapid blood sugar fluctuations, potentially leading to restless sleep and difficulty falling asleep. It’s best to stop all eating several hours before sleep.
  • Sugar in your gut.
    • Excessive sugar consumption can negatively impact gut health by affecting the gut microbiome, potentially leading to dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut bacteria) and issues like bloating, gas, inflammation, and other metabolic problems.

Future articles will talk about the benefits a Carnivore Diet and/or a Ketogenic Diet – both can give you a rapid turn around on the negative impacts of too much sugar over the years!

Your first step is to start tracking your blood sugar levels – this is very easy to do with a simple Blood Glucose Monitor (no it does not hurt to prick your finger and draw on drop of blood in the morning or after meals. For about $35 you can begin doing a basic assessment of how your body is handling your sugar intake. Click Here for a link to the one we use.
