Do you know when Labor Day started and why? Do you know what it was designed to celebrate?

Once we understand how Labor Day originated and examine our current culture, we can discover new ways to celebrate Labor Day and cultivate a culture today that enables us to move forward with even greater strength, creating a legacy of significance.

Labor Day honors the American Labor Movement, which sought to end child labor and provide health and other benefits to injured and retired workers. It was first celebrated on September 5, 1882, and became a national holiday in the United States in 1894.

How does that theme impact us today?

Today, we don’t have children working in factories in America – instead, children are being kidnapped and trafficked. Many organizations, both within and outside of government, are aggressively focused on finding those children, setting them free, and helping them to be restored. We need to pray for these children and those who are trying to save them.

Furthermore, we have a new movement aimed at restoring health to Americans. We are leaving behind food contamination, chemicals, excess vaccines, and so much more. Thanks to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., there is a movement to restore public health. MAHA ~ Make America Healthy Again!

In 1990, I was on a personal mission to restore my own health. This led us on a 35-year journey to learning and understanding what it means to be healthy, which ultimately led to the creation of Lifestyle for Health. What a blessing to watch RFK Jr. making an impact on our health on a larger national scale!

In a world of rapid change, much of which can be overwhelming, we can choose to focus on the positive changes and celebrate life and health. Last year, we may have celebrated Labor Day with a view to the past or with no thought at all to its history, but this year we can celebrate the future!

As we relax and celebrate with family and friends this year, let us remember that the freedom of being an American is a privilege to be honored and appreciated.

This year, I encourage you to recognize the changes happening around us that are letting us create a culture beyond ‘labor’. One that celebrates the freedoms of being an American and becoming a great nation!
