Since 2020, screen time has soared due to more Zoom meetings, remote working, social media, TV, and gaming. This is true for adults and children.
Average Screen Time Stats for 2024 are:
- Globally, people average 6 hours and 40 minutes of screen time per day
- The average American spends 7 hours and 3 minutes looking at a screen each day
- Almost half (49%) of 0 to 2-year-olds interact with smartphones
- Children ages 8-12 in the United States spend 4-6 hours a day watching or using screens
- Teens spend up to 9 hours.
The impact of too much screen time can look like:
- Dry eyes, eye fatigue
- Neck, shoulder, back pain
- Headaches
- Blurred vision
- Poor posture
- Increased levels of depression
- Sleep deprivation
For children, too much screen time can impact:
- Development growth (i.e., language, social skills, behavior, and attention)
- Obesity
- Mental health
Part of the problem is that devices emit higher-energy blue light. Kids are even more sensitive to blue light than adults.
Technology is not going away, but we can do something to protect our eyes, nervous system, and health – whether for adults or children!
So, what can you do?
Since the brain and eyes are the biggest energy users in your body, the more you support your eyes and brain, the more energy the body has to heal!
Tips for Eye Relief
- Follow the 20-20-20 Rule
- Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away.
- At the same time, practice deep, slow, relaxed breathing that is intentional. Box breathing is great! Inhale slowly through the nose, hold, exhale slowly through the mouth (pursed lips), hold, repeat.
- This simple practice can help relax your eye muscles and reduce fatigue.
- Palm Your Eyes
- Rub your hands together to create warmth, then gently place your palms over your closed eyes.
- Avoid pressing on the eyes and focus on relaxing the muscles around them.
- Hold for at least 30 seconds and upwards to 2 minutes.
- Eye Rolling
- Slowly roll your eyes in a clockwise direction, then counterclockwise, for 10 repetitions each. Go slowly! If your eyes fatigue, stop the rolling for that time.
- This helps release tension in the eye muscles.
- Near Far Focus
- Hold your thumb about 10 inches from your nose and focus on it for 15 seconds.
- Then, shift your focus to an object 10-20 feet away for another 15 seconds.
- Repeat this cycle several times.
- Distance Switching
- Hold a finger a few inches from your nose and focus on it.
- Slowly move your finger away from your face.
- Once your arm is fully extended, change your focus to something past your finger.
- Pencil Push-ups
- Hold a pencil at arm’s length and focus on its tip.
- Slowly bring the pencil closer to your nose while keeping the tip in focus.
- Then, move it back out.
- Stay HYDRATED! Keep a water bottle beside you and do your best to get half your body weight in ounces of pure water (not tap water) daily.
- Sparking Your Eyes
- I love watching people’s faces transform by resetting cranial nerves in minutes!
- This change happened in just a couple of minutes!

- It’s interesting to show these two pictures to clients. Some immediately see the improvement. I’ve had a few think the first one is better – that is what they see in the mirror daily. Be sure you recognize that the second image shows better eye relaxation!

- Blue-Blocker Glasses
- There are many blue-blocker glasses on the market. They range in price from $50-$150. Select a darker orange color if you are on screens later at night. During the day, lighter-colored lenses are usually best. This is key for people who work on computers a lot. HERE is a brand we have found effective on Amazon.
- These are helpful for people using computers and in environments with LED lights.
- Essential Protect
- We have found that regular use of Essential Protect helps with eye fatigue and eye/head pressure. It is also helpful in cataract prevention, reducing vision loss, and improving immunity (It was a key support during covid). ORDER HERE

- Terahertz wave frequency lies between the microwave and infrared frequency within a wavelength range of 30 to 3000 microns.
- When cells are irradiated by terahertz frequency, it rapidly transfers energy into the human body and activates inert cells. Scientific research shows that it is entirely safe for human body cell absorption. CLICK HERE to learn more!
